A Cal/OSHA proposal to tweak the Title 8 requirements for employer emergency action plans received favorable comments at its February public hearing. As representatives of employer groups are feeling positive about the proposal, it is on its way to board adoption which could possibly happen this month.

The proposal would revise General Industry Safety Orders on evacuation procedures to include more detail that encompasses more than just escape and exit assignments. Elizabeth Treanor, director of the Phylmar Regulatory Roundtable’s OSH Forum, agrees with the change to Title 8 and states, “PRR supports this appropriate revision. Member companies have different emergency procedures for rescue operations and medical operations…This change will improve the clarity of the Emergency Action Plan requirements.”
