Expertise on issues of lead toxicology and health effects as well as the disposition of lead in both animals and humans has been an important resource for various clients that must address issues related to lead exposures. Experience in this area includes:

Critical examination and extensive use of the bokinetic model for predictinh blood lead levels and clean-up levels for lead in soils at several CERCLA/RCRA sites. Sites have included abandoned mining sites, inactive smelter operations associated with mining sites, and both active and inactive battery recycling/lead smelter facilities. The blood lead modeling exercises examined impacts of lead exposures on both on-site workers or trespassers and off-site residents.

Designed a biokinetic model for lead exposure in adults and applied the model to a risk assessment at a former battery recycling facility.

Provided expert testimony in cases involving exposure to lead-based paint. Work included preparation of an affidavit discussing the relationship between significant relationships between maternal IQ and a child’s IQ.

Provided expert testimony for litigation concerning claimed health effects due to exposures to lead-containing soils.

? Prepared a report on the current knowledge concerning the efficacy of lead-based paint abatement. Efficacy was defined in terms of both environmental contamination and effects on blood lead levels.

? Critically evaluated the available literature concerning the bioavailability of lead from a variety of media including lead from paint, diet, water, and soil.

? Prepared and presented a briefing for clients on the use of the biokinetic model in lead exposure and risk assessment.

? Assisted in a risk assessment to answer questions concerning the safe use of ceramicware and crystal containing lead.

? Performed a risk assessment for children exposed to lead in water coolers.

? Critically examined data on leaching of lead from plumbing fixtures and provided assistance to manufacturers in negotiations with officials in the State of Massachusetts relating to lead exposures in drinking water.

? Designed and implemented a health risk study for a city in Texas concerning residents’ exposures to lead emissions from an industrial facility.
