Chemical Risk Assessment

Small Municipality

North Central Texas

A comprehensive assessment of lead exposure in a small city with an active battery recycling facility was performed. The study was designed to determine if there were any potential health risks that could be attributed to lead emissions from the facility. The study was prompted by concerns voiced by the citizens and was funded by the city. All phases of the study were overseen and implemented by the consultant and included installation of air monitoring stations, soil sampling, water sampling, and dust sampling within private residences. The results of the study showed that active emissions from the recycling facility did not result in any increased risk to health. Public meetings were held to convey the results to the community and to address any specific concerns.
